My Biography
Emily Johnston is a clarinetist based in Cumming, Georgia, and a recent graduate of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia, where she earned a Bachelor in Music Performance under the instruction of Dr. D. Ray McClellan. Graduating with a GPA of 3.93, Emily distinguished herself both academically and artistically throughout her studies.
Emily has performed extensively with a diverse array of ensembles, including the Lawrenceville Symphony Orchestra, UGA Symphony Orchestra, UGA Hodgson Wind Ensemble, and UGA Opera Theatre, and the UGA Redcoat Marching Band. She has also had the honor of appearing as a guest performer with prestigious groups such as the United States Air Force Band, UGA ARCO Chamber Orchestra, and the Athens Choral Society Orchestra. Additionally, in 2019, Emily was honored to serve as principal chair for the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) All-State Band, a testament to her exceptional skill and dedication to her craft.
Her passion for teaching is evident in her work with students of all levels. She has served as a clarinet instructor at Winder-Barrow High School and Morgan County High School. Additionally, she has worked locally with students at North Forsyth Middle School.
Emily has participated in a number of prestigious festivals, including the Clarinet Academy of America, UGA Janfest, and UGA Midfest, and has participated in masterclasses for renowned artists such as Anthony McGill, Daniel Gilbert, Gábor Varga, Robert DiLutis, and Alcides Rodriguez, among others.
Her dedication to her craft has been recognized with several honors, including the William Dull Clarinet Scholarship, Undergraduate Director’s Award of Excellence, the John Philip Sousa Award, and membership in Phi Beta Kappa.
